Welcome to the James Alva Hendricks Family Blog

Throughout my life I have always been proud to be a Hendricks and to know so many of you. I have tried to live up to those who have gone before us, sacrificing so much so we could live where we live and have the things we have. We are all blessed with such a rich family history, preceded by so many people. This blog is a place where we can collect and share favorite family pictures, stories and memories of who we are. Please feel free to visit as often as possible and if there are things you want to add or correct, please contact any of the contributors listed on the right side panel. Desmond Tutu once said, "You don't choose your family. They are God's gift to you, as you are to them. Let us take the time and remember ours together. Mike

Pioneer ancestors - Drusilla Dorris and Laura Richardson Bess

I recently found a book called Pioneer Women of Faith and Fortitude.  It is compiles by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. It is a compilation of brief biographies of the pioneer women, often with a photo.  Almost if not every single one of our lines are represented in the book.  I will try to scan and post a few every few days.  Here is Drusilla Dorris Hendricks and Laura Richardson Bess.  They are Juel Josiah's grandmothers on his father's and mother's side.

You will need to click on them to read them.  I am sorry Laura's picture didn't turn out.  I think the Utah  Daughters of Utah Pioneers would have access to it and I will ask for it and the other pictures.  I will post them when I get them.

Here is Ione's obituary.  I learned somethings I never knew about here, but I was really young when she passed away.

Picture of Juel Josiah as Street Sweeper in Oregon

I found a photo of Juel Josiah.  It is labeled on the back to James Alva saying that Juel was a street Sweeper for at least part of the time while he was in Oregon.  Here is a picture of him.  He is the one with the x under him.
